Musculoskeletal and Sociodemographic Gender Differences between Vocational Ballet Students

Introduction: Studies of vocational ballet students are sparce. In particular, there is a lack gender comparisons. The aim the present study, therefore, was to give musculoskeletal and sociodemographic description typical student in comparison. Methods: this n = 414 female 192 male John Cranko School (JCS), aged between 5 22 years (Mean ± SD: 13.9 3.5), were examined by an experienced orthopedist dance physician. Results: Males started (5.8/8.2 years, p < 0.001) training at later age than females (13.5/14.6 0.05). There high prevalence low body weight among both sexes; however, particularly participants (58.4/16.2%, 0.001). Both sexes showed large external rotation hip (f/m: 59/62°, 0.001), turnout 82/86°, 0.01), values for plantarflexion ankle joint 72/68°, dorsiflexion metatarsophalangeal big toe 90/87°, Discussion: Differences ballet-specific characteristics genders (f/m) converging smaller described past. sector, females, highlights need deeper diagnostic investigation.
